It is a parable about how reputation systems and automated moderation reshape speech.

As AI-based detection tools become embedded in digital communities, clarity may be mistaken for artificiality, structure for automation, and quality for suspicion.

This story explores what happens when conformity becomes safer than thought.

There once lived an ordinary person.

A writer, perhaps. Or a painter. Or a poet. Or a musician. Or simply a decent human being. For narrative completeness, let him be Jewish — every parable benefits from a touch of inherited irony.

He had thoughts.

Thoughts are dangerous things. They are better kept to oneself. But he did not know that.

He was told:

— You should go to Reddit. There are communities there. They will understand you. There is an audience.

He believed it. He registered.

Three minutes later, the system politely informed him:

You cannot post. You do not have enough karma.

Karma.

He knew about Buddhist karma. At least there good deeds counted.

Here, the arithmetic was different.

— How much do I need? — he asked cautiously.

— One hundred points.

— And how do I earn them?

— Comment.

— On what?

— On posts by respected users.

— And what should I write?

— Be detailed. Be sincere. Write from the heart. And do not use AI. We can tell immediately.

It was a touching statement.

People who cannot distinguish sarcasm from insult had suddenly developed supernatural abilities to detect neural networks.

The man was literate. He had been writing long before AI entered public life. His texts existed in an era when artificial intelligence was still science fiction.

But suddenly he discovered:

If you write cleanly, without grammatical disasters —
it is suspicious.

If your structure is logical —
it is suspicious.

If your thought does not leap like a goat across an Alpine slope —
it is nearly proof of machine origin.

An unwritten rule was explained to him:

Write clumsily.
Hesitate.
Add conversational fog.
Errors are welcome — they make you authentic.

Just do not write too well.

So he went to earn karma.

He selected posts by intellectual titans with karma up to their knees. How they walked under such weight remained unclear. Perhaps they were supported by their own self-importance.

He wrote sincerely.
He wrote at length.
Sometimes he could not resist polishing a sentence — an itch of precision. A sentence must breathe properly.

Most comments were removed.

The reasons were subtle:

— Low karma.
— Violating the spirit of the subreddit.
— Too general.
— Too specific.
— Suspiciously well-written.

A few comments survived.

They sank.

Because the authors were not posting for dialogue.
They were posting for applause.
For mirrors.
For other aristocrats of karma to reply: “Brilliant. Exactly. 200% agree.”

Two weeks of effort.

One.

The system is generous.

Then he decided:

— Fine. I will create my own community.

Why not? The platform advertises itself as a space for free exchange of ideas.

He created a subreddit.
He designed it carefully.
He wrote his first post.

And — miracle — views.
Living numbers.
Interest.

Four hours later, a message arrived.

Your community has been banned.

The reason was standard.
The appeal was possible. The response not guaranteed.
Dialogue not included.

Everything fell into place.

Reddit is not a place for thoughts.
It is a place for conformity.

Karma is not a measure of quality.
It is a measure of ritual integration.

First prove that you are safe.
Prove that you are not too intelligent.
Prove that you are not too independent.
Prove that you are willing to bow before upward arrows.

Otherwise,

the world will never hear what you meant to say.

But the digital ecosystem will remain protected.
